Simpson, George Gaylord
(16 jun. 1902, Chicago, Ill., EE.UU.–6 oct. 1984, Tucson, Ariz.).

Paleontólogo estadounidense. Obtuvo un doctorado en la Universidad de Yale. Sus contribuciones a la teoría de la evolución incluyen una clasificación detallada de los mamíferos, basada en sus estudios de la evolución mamífera, la cual se encuentra aún vigente. También se le conoce por sus estudios de migración intercontinental de especies animales, especialmente mamíferos de Sudamérica, en el pasado geológico. Sus libros comprenden Tempo and Mode in Evolution [Tiempo y ritmo en la evolución] (1944; 1984), The Meaning of Evolution [El significado de la evolución] (1949), The Major Features of Evolution [Los rasgos principales de la evolución] (1953) y The Principles of Animal Taxonomy [Principios de taxonomía animal] (1961).
